Columbia University has suspended dozens of students and barred alums and others who participated in a pro-Palestinian demonstration inside the school’s main library earlier this week, a school spokesperson said Friday.

A Columbia University official said more than 65 students have been placed on interim suspension and 33 more have been banned from the campus after Wednesday's on-campus protest.

New York City police took 80 people into custody after responding to protests on Columbia's campus, the police department said.
