Superman” soared into theaters this weekend, snapping up an estimated $122 million in domestic ticket sales and launching a new era of DC superhero flicks.
The film took in $217 million this weekend and is the latest part of a startling turnaround for the studio, which has now released five consecutive hits.

Also at the multiplex is “Eddington,” a dark comedy billed as a contemporary Western starring Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone and Pedro Pascal. On the family-friendly front is the animated “Smurfs,” featuring the voices of Rihanna, James Corden and Nick Offerman.
Also, it’s another great start for the summer box office, the second $100M+ opening after Lilo & Stitch ‘s $146M. Superman cost before P&A $225M net. Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel opened to $116.6M back in 2013, unadjusted for inflation.
The movie — launching a new era for DC Studios — will be only the third Hollywood pic of the year so far to cross the century mark in its domestic box office debut.

Interestingly, with a collection of Rs 9.35 crores, Superman has managed to beat Captain America: Brave New World on the second day of release. For the uninitiated, Captain America: Brave New World had minted Rs 4 crores on day 2 in India.
