Republican Vice President JD Vance on Friday met troops who have been deployed in Los Angeles to quell protests against immigration raids, as he accused Democratic state and city leaders of encouraging immigrants to cross the U.

"When you have violent agitators who make it impossible for law enforcement to do their jobs, it is necessary to protect them and defend them," Vance said during a trip where he met with federal officials responding to the protests.
